WhatsApp now lets people join voice and video calls without creating a WhatsApp account. The feature, called Guest Calling, allows an account holder to share a call link with someone who can open it in a computer browser, enter a name, and request to join.
Meta announced Guest Calling on October 14, 2026. The person hosting the call still needs a WhatsApp account, and every guest must be approved before entering. Guest Calling supports calls with up to 32 participants, including the host.

What Is WhatsApp Guest Calling?
Guest Calling extends WhatsApp’s existing call-link feature to people who do not use WhatsApp. Instead of downloading the app or registering an account, an invited person can join a voice or video conversation through a link in a computer browser.
This does not mean anyone can start a WhatsApp call without signing up. Creating the link requires an existing WhatsApp account. The account holder acts as the host and controls which guests are admitted.
Meta’s official Guest Calling preview shows a video call running in a computer browser, with participant tiles and a panel containing a shareable call link. The image comes from Meta and is not a record of AllBetaInfo hands-on testing.
How to Create a WhatsApp Guest Call Link
According to WhatsApp’s official introduction to the feature, the host can create a link directly in WhatsApp:
- Open WhatsApp and go to the Calls tab.
- Tap the plus icon and create a call link.
- Share the link with the person you want to invite.
- When a guest requests to join, review the request and approve them.
The host does not need to add the guest as a WhatsApp contact or ask them to create an account first.
How Guests Join Without a WhatsApp Account
For the invited person, the process takes place in a browser rather than the WhatsApp app.
- Open the shared call link in a computer browser.
- Enter a name and request to join the call.
- Wait for the WhatsApp host to approve the request.
- Join the voice or video call after approval.
WhatsApp’s announcement specifically confirms computer-browser access. It does not provide a complete list of supported browsers or establish that the guest experience works in every mobile browser. Those details should not be assumed.
Why Guest Calls Use a Waiting Room
A shared link alone does not give an invited guest immediate access to the conversation. Guest Calling places the person in a waiting room until the host accepts the request.
WhatsApp requires host approval for each guest. The host can also remove a guest after they have joined. This is an important distinction from general WhatsApp call links, which have separate optional approval controls.
The waiting room gives the host a chance to review who is requesting entry, even when someone forwards a call link to another person. It should not be mistaken for a guarantee that every guest’s identity has been independently verified.
What Guests Can and Cannot Do
People who join without an account can participate in more than a basic audio conversation. Meta confirms that guests can:
- Join voice and video calls.
- Share their computer screen.
- Send thumbs-up and heart reactions.
- Raise their hand during a call.
There are also specific limits. Guests cannot see other participants’ phone numbers, send messages within the call, or invite additional people directly. The host remains responsible for admitting and removing guests.
These restrictions allow participation without giving a guest the same access as a registered WhatsApp user.
Are WhatsApp Guest Calls Encrypted and Free?
WhatsApp says Guest Calling uses end-to-end encryption for voice and video conversations, including when someone joins without an account.
The company also says calls are free and have no WhatsApp-imposed time limit. A single call can include up to 32 participants in total, not 32 guests in addition to the host.
An internet connection is still required, so ordinary data charges from a mobile or internet provider may apply. End-to-end encryption also does not prevent a participant from sharing information they can see or hear during a conversation.
How Guest Calling Differs From WhatsApp Web Calling
WhatsApp already introduced voice and video calling through WhatsApp Web for account holders earlier in 2026.
Guest Calling solves a different problem. It lets someone who does not have a WhatsApp account participate in a call from their computer browser. They join as an invited guest, not as someone signed in to their own WhatsApp Web account.
The ability to generate WhatsApp call links also existed before this launch. The new part is allowing people without accounts to use those links to join calls.
Is WhatsApp Guest Calling Available to Everyone?
Guest Calling was officially announced on October 14, 2026, but access may still vary between accounts. WhatsApp has not provided a complete public list of supported countries, eligible app versions, or a date when every account will have the feature.
If the option is not visible in WhatsApp, that does not necessarily indicate a problem with the user’s device. The published announcement does not establish an exact rollout schedule or a guaranteed method to enable the feature immediately.
Google Calendar and Outlook Integration
Meta also announced plans to make it easier to add WhatsApp call links to Google Calendar and Outlook invitations later in 2026.
An official WhatsApp for Outlook listing by Meta is visible in Microsoft Marketplace. The listing describes adding WhatsApp call links to Outlook meeting invitations, but its presence alone does not confirm that every user has access to the integration.
For now, the central Guest Calling experience is straightforward: an account holder creates a link, a guest opens it in a computer browser, and the host approves that person before the call begins.
